CIE Residents come out against Dart proposal

More than 180 residents of the CIE Estate tonight attended a public meeting on the underground Dart proposal from Irish Rail.

Speaker after speaker denounced the lack of consultation from Irish Rail and the company's plan to turn the area into a gigantic building site.

Local representatives and other election candidates were also out in force and all pledged to support the residents' fight for proper consultation and maintenance of the historic and residential character of the area.

More than 30 people signed up to participate in an action committee to fight the proposal, and this group is set to meet within the coming days.

Irish Rail representatives did not attend tonight's meeting - they were holding their own "consultation" in East Wall - but it is likely they will be invited to present their proposals directly to affected residents in the near future.
