Goldenbridge Cemetery Meetup and Cleanup 11am Saturday 29th August

IEG26/08/2015Hello all,

This week the clean up event is a bit different. IEG is delighted to tell you about someone else's event! It's a public meetup - with a bit of a cleanup - as part of a project to open Goldenbridge Cemetery for the 1916 Centenary commemorations, run by the Glasnevin Cemetary Trust in conjunction with Richmond Barracks.

They would like to get as many people as possible down to visit the cemetery on Saturday morning at 11 and hear about the work that Richmond Barracks, the Glasnevin Trust and DCC are doing to maintain, restore and hopefully open the cemetery. There will be a bit of cleanup but nothing too onerous. Glasnevin Trust will talk about some of the restoration work that is going on.

As it says in the leaflet, Goldenbridge Cemetery is a hugely important part of our heritage - it's older than Glasnevin - and having it open, with guided tours etc will benefit everyone. The more that go, the more of a demonstration of the local support for getting so if you can't make it, it would be great if you could spread the word.

The plan is to meet at 11am at as ever, pickers, gloves will be supplied. A map for the location of the cemetery is attached - it's near the Luas stop or up from Emmet Road at the pedestrian crossing.

Hope to see you there,

Inchicore Environmental Group.

Here's a link to a tweet with leaflet and a map so you know it's all official :)

Glasnevin and Richmond Barracks are trying their damnedest to get this open for 1916. They may need volunteer help in future. You can see the work that Richmond Barracks is doing/planning here
