| CH | 12/08/2009 | (Article from The Irish Independent dated 24th July, 2009 by Paul Melia) THE European Investment Bank (EIB) will be asked to help fund Dublin's Metro North and DART underground projects, writes Paul Melia. Yesterday Transport Minister Noel Dempsey said he would seek EIB backing for the projects, estimated to cost up to €6bn, because they would help improve Ireland's competitiveness and provide an extensive public transport system for the capital. Speaking after a meeting with EIB vice-president Plutarchos Sakellaris, Mr Dempsey said the meeting focused on stressing the "political and strategic importance" of the Metro North and the DART underground projects. "I used the opportunity to review the various transport infrastructure projects here in Ireland that have already received EIB backing," he said. |
