Save Weaver Square Gardens!

Sabina Stan15/11/2018The campaign to Save Weaver Square Gardens is concerned with DCC's onslaught in the last few years of green spaces in the inner city and D8 in particular.

The latest is the Weaver Square Community Garden and Allotments in Dublin 8, which DCC plans to close by the end of this year. This is one of very few places where we can come together as a community and now that's going it's really heartbreaking with everything else that's going. Rezoning Newmarket square instantaneously signed the death knell for the Coop and Green Door markets, and all we are seeing is private interests winning out at the expense of the community. There's one thing that seems so odd to me about the whole discussion about density and height in Dublin and that's loss of gardens. It's the one thing that defines apartment living and losing gardens and outdoor space has a major effect on mental health. Of course the allotments go one step further and allows the community to actually come together, something that seems to be lost on many people in DCC.
