Kilmainham Arts Club

Date: 7th Mar 2011

Kilmainham Arts Club, the monthly celebration of the arts, is on Monday March 7th. It's World Book Night on March 5th and DCC are giving away copies of Seamus Heaney's book of poetry through Kilmainham Arts Club! Join us to celebrate the arts on Monday March 7th at 8pm at Kilmainham Arts Club in The Patriots Inn, Kilmainham. We will focus on Heaney's poetry in the night through three readings: Liam O'Meara, local poet and author of The Bayno, will read some of his own work and both he and playwright John Devoy will read their favourite Heaney poem. Aoife Franklyn, the overall winner of the fifth annual Poetry Aloud Competition who received the Seamus Heaney trophy 2011, will read some of her work and a favourite Seamus Heaney poem. The evening will also consist of visual presentations on the big screen - a slide show of illustrations depicting Irish customs, traditions, crafts, townlands, stoies and myths from the book The Ould Ago by Johnny McKeagney (now deceased) presented by his son Paul. Vera McEvoy, a graduate of NCAD, will show her multi-disciplinary work and Sara Franklyn will present images relating to water in honour of UNWWD (United Nations World Water Day 22/03). Anthony Cronin will show some of his stunning black and white photographs and we will raffle one on the night to raise funds for the Kilmainham Arts Festival. Traditional Irish music will round off the night with Paul Conlon and Aoife NiCormaic (violen). Admission to Arts Club March 7th is free, it is open to all and it is a fun, relaxing and lively night!
